Fabric lover, bag maker, cloth figure creator, and custom sewer, that's Wyncia.
The hills above Boulder Colorado became home a decade ago when I left the the green hills of upstate New York. Abandoning my life as a lawyer, I examined my conflict- free passions for an avocation.
Fabric, color and creating were at the top; recycling and using materials well followed closely.
There developed the idea of bags for the practical part of me and figures for the whimsical side.
The first bags were insulated bags for getting ice cream home from town to the hills during the hot dry Colorado summers. From there, all sorts of fun fabric bags followed, many made from assorted remnants, samples, and scraps.
Figure making was inspired from an occasional art to an obsession when I wanted to represent the yoga postures that my daughter teaches on the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
Yoga dolls and other figures emerge from the fabric scraps, each with its own personality.
As an avid reader and occasional writer, I am thrilled to see the stories that emerge from the figures who come to visit me in the studio.
